Retelling:
This is an extract from Geroge Orwell’s novel ‘Animal farm’, a great masterpiece of English antiutopian prose. The author tells us about Mr. Jones (a capable farmer who had fallen on evil days after losing money in a lawsuit and began drinking much), his farm and the Rebellion. The writer points out that Mr. Jones’ men were idle and dishonest, didn’t take care of the farm and animals. The action took place in June when the hay was almost ready for cutting, to be more precise, it was Midsummer’s Eve. The animals had been unfed all day long because the men had gone out rabbiting and Mr. Jones went to sleep, so the animals could stand it no longer and one of the cows broke in the door and all the animals began to help themselves from the bins. The next moment the farmer and his four men were in the store-shed with whips in their hands but animals got very angry and began kicking the men. A minute later all five of them ran away, so did Mrs. Jones when she saw what was happening.
